Swatchfest: MAC Punk Couture Mini Haul

MAC, MAC Cosmetics, punk couture, studded kiss, lipstick, mac lipstick, jet boy, cremesheen glass, swatchfest, mini haul, haul

In December of 2013, Mac Cosmetics launched a few new collections: Magnetic Nude, Huggable Lipcolour, and Punk Couture. Out of those, (of course) Punk Couture piqued my interest the most.

Punk’s rebel spirit has a visual language all its own. Punk Couture: Eye Shadow x 4 builds fierce eyes with extreme black, silvered amethyst, nude matte and blackened plum. Also includes Haute & Naughty Too Black Lash, Penultimate Eye Liner and Eye Kohl. Neon Pigments instigate a chaos of colour, Retro Matte Lipstick attracts in true black, midnight violet, fig and oxblood, while Cremesheen Glass shimmers with golden and purple pearl. Black, beaded Nail Lacquers are pure, polished punk.

I managed to get my hands on a lipstick (before they all got snatched up) and a cremesheen glass.

Studded Kiss (0.1oz) comes in the iconic MAC lipstick tube and retailed for $15.00. It's not my favorite lipstick packaging, but it's small and sleek so I do like it. Unfortunately, this color is no longer available for purchase on MAC's website, but you may still be able to find it at a local store.

Jet Boy is a cremesheen glass. It comes in a rounded tube that contains 0.09 fl oz with a doe foot applicator and retails for $20.00. The tube is transparent, so you're able to see the shade and is made of a really sturdy plastic.

Although I would've liked to have been able to buy everything from this line, I'm happy with my first purchase! I'm really excited to see how Jet Boy looks over different lipsticks because I don't think I'd want to wear it all on its own. Plus, Studded Kiss is just an awesome oxblood color. I think that even though all of the other lipsticks have sold out that I'll be getting the two other cremesheen glasses as well as all of the pigments.

What do you think of the Punk Couture collection? Did you get anything from it yet?

Swatchfest: MAC Spider Queen Pro Palette

MAC Cosmetics released the Spider Queen Pro Palette with the MAC x Rick Baker collection for Halloween 2013. I was probably looking forward to this palette the most out of everything from the 2013 MAC collections.

The Spider Queen Pro Palette comes with six eyeshadows (6g each) and retails for $44.00. The packaging is made from a lightweight, sturdy, black plastic and has a clear window on the front. I really don't mind foregoing a mirror to be able to see all of the eyeshadow colors that the palette holds.

The eyeshadow colors are:
Lime (Permanent, PRO): Lime green matte
Moss (Limited Edition): Warm yellow green frost
Deep Purple (Limited Edition): Bright deep purple frost
Indian Ink (Permanent, PRO): Deep eggplant matte
Dusty Purple (Limited Edition): Mid-tone neutral purple satin
Carbon (Permanent): Intense black matte

Dusty Purple & Carbon

All of the pictures were taken in natural lighting and the eyeshadows were swatched dry on bare skin (no base or primer) with a finger. I think MAC could have done a better job with the overall texture of the shadows, especially since these are part of the PRO line. Lime was pretty chalky and carbon should have been much more pigmented. Honestly, I really like the color selections chosen for this palette, but I just had higher hopes for it. We'll see how well it performs when the shadows are used for a look.

What do you think? Did you grab anything from the MAC x Rick Baker collection?

Countdown to Kitschmas: Giving Back

One amazing last minute gift is a donation in someone's name, or finding a way to give back. Below is a list of causes that I support and some companies that give back when a purchase is made.

TARPS
Homepage

The Animal Rescue and Protection Society, Inc. is a non-profit corporation dedicated to effect positive change in the communities we serve, regarding the proper care and welfare of all animals, including those that are homeless, abandoned or rescued from abuse. Our objectives are to: operate a no kill shelter, rescue and care for stray and abandoned household pets, promote the importance of spaying/neutering, place animals with loving adoptive homes, educate the public in the proper care and nutrition of animals, and improve the lives of feral cats through education and action, which includes rehabilitation and humane Trap, Neuter, Release programs. [source]

TARPS has a special place in my heart because it's the shelter that I adopted my baby girls from and personally volunteered at. I paired up the cats with the adopters, was treasurer of the board, and helped keep things organized as well as some other various things! I can 100% say that I stand behind this shelter.

Lil BUB
Homepage

Hey, It's me, BUB. Thanks for checking out my store which has a bunch of cool stuff with my amazing face on it.
If you decide to buy something, I just wanted to let you know that a portion of the portion of the proceeds will be donated to these awesome organizations:
Pets Alive
The Exotic Feline Rescue Center
Monroe County Humane Association
[source]

Um, Lil BUB is my all time favorite internet famous cat. You can buy (yourself or someone else) an adorable BUB mug or calendar and know that a portion of the purchase will be going to a great cause! It's a total win-win.

Planned Parenthood
Homepage

Every dollar donated through December 31 will be matched up to $350,000!
Planned Parenthood believes in the fundamental right of each individual, throughout the world, to manage his or her fertility, regardless of the individual's income, marital status, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or residence. We believe that respect and value for diversity in all aspects of our organization are essential to our well-being. We believe that reproductive self-determination must be voluntary and preserve the individual's right to privacy. We further believe that such self-determination will contribute to an enhancement of the quality of life and strong family relationships.

Based on these beliefs, and reflecting the diverse communities within which we operate, the mission of Planned Parenthood is to provide comprehensive reproductive and complementary health care services in settings which preserve and protect the essential privacy and rights of each individual, to advocate public policies which guarantee these rights and ensure access to such services, to provide educational programs which enhance understanding of individual and societal implications of human sexuality, and to promote research and the advancement of technology in reproductive health care and encourage understanding of their inherent bioethical, behavioral, and social implications. [source]

Planned Parenthood does so many great things, including promoting and providing access to reproductive health care and is one of my favorite places to give money to!

Apart from producing awesome cosmetics, MAC has an AIDS fund and donates the money spent on all of the Viva Glam lipsticks to it!

Angela & Roi
Homepage

Our company was founded on strong moral principles. We prioritize ethical and respectful treatment of our customers. Our products reflect our value system that is focused on customer satisfaction, not profit margins. However, we believe we can use our resources productively in a way to impact the greater community. Our company presents an opportunity for us to share our support for non-profit organizations specializing in prevalent health issues. We promise to donate a portion of each sale to contribute to chosen non-profit organizations. Our project vows to intertwine consumerism with philanthropy.

Different medical issues relate to specific colors. For example, Lung Cancer awareness links traditionally with the color white. When customers purchase a white handbag, five dollars will automatically be donated to Lung Cancer Alliance. Our company works together in total with eleven non-profit organizations. [source]

Um, get an awesome handbag and be able to contribute to your pick of organization?! Yes, please.

Homepage

We bring the adventurous Spirit of the wild into everyday life while helping to protect endangered animals. We encourage creating new experiences, giving back and community interaction through self expression.

All Authentic Spirithoods ® are made in Los Angeles California, with the highest quality faux fur (fake fur). You can rest assured knowing that no animals are harmed during the creation of our products. In 2011 & 2012 we were honored to receive Peta Libby Award for Best Animal-friendly Clothing Company. [source]

Here's another company that donates a portion of sales to a great cause. Keep yourself warm and cosy during the winter and give some money to help protect endangered animals!

Kiva
Homepage

We are a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world. [source]

Kiva reminds me of sites like Kickstarter and indiegogo. Donate a bit (or a whole bunch) of money to one specific cause that you can pick yourself!

American Cancer Society
Homepage

Together with our millions of supporters, the American Cancer Society (ACS) saves lives and creates a world with less cancer and more birthdays by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back.

The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, the ACS has 12 geographic Divisions, more than 900 local offices nationwide, and a presence in more than 5,200 communities. [source]

Most people are (unfortunately) somehow touched by cancer, so I couldn't not add in the American Cancer Society.

Wounded Warrior Project
Homepage

Mission: To honor and empower Wounded Warriors.
Vision: To foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation's history.
Purpose: To raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members, to help injured service members aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members. [source]

I feel that this, like the ACS, speaks for itself. Wounded Warrior Project is an amazing cause!

USO
Homepage

The USO lifts the spirits of America’s troops and their families. Millions of times each year at hundreds of locations around the world, the USO lifts the spirits of America’s troops and their families. A nonprofit, congressionally chartered, private organization, the USO relies on the generosity of individuals, organizations and corporations to support its activities. The USO is not part of the U.S. government, but is recognized by the Department of Defense, Congress and President of the United States, who serves as Honorary Chairman of the USO. [source]

USO is another military themed organization. The USO does a lot to keep spirits up; at least out here in Japan!

The Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services
Homepage

The mission of the Center for Domestic Violence Services is to assist victims of domestic violence and their children to escape the abuse and rebuild their lives. BHcare's The Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services provides free, confidential services for victims of domestic violence and their children. Services include: 24 hour crisis/emergency shelter services, safety planning, support/education groups, domestic violence counseling/advocacy, legal system advocacy/court-based services, emergency transportation, information and referral, and community education. [source]

This was another local non-profit for me growing up and another personal cause that I think deserves a lot of attention and support.

Save The Children
Homepage

Save the Children gives children in the United States and around the world what every child deserves – a healthy start, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm, especially when disaster strikes. We advocate and achieve lasting change for millions of children. We save children’s lives. [source]

Another pretty self explanatory organization!

Remember, giving back doesn't always mean money; it can mean volunteering too! How do you give back during the holiday season? What are your favorite non-profits and charities?

These are the products that I’ve been loving throughout last month!

Mac Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Electric Eel
This eyeshadow seems to be one that I’ve reached for over and over again in July. The color is a nice aqua with lots of shimmer. Electric Eel is perfect to use with a neutral look for a pop of color or with a bold look as well.

Revlon ColorStay Liquid Foundation in 200 Nude for Combination/Oily Skin
Whew! That’s a mouthful. This is a perfect match for my skin tone in the summer, plus it has SPF 6 (which isn’t a whole lot, but it’s something, yeah?) and it’s specifically made for people with combo/oily skin. It goes on well and has nice lasting power.

Paula’s Choice Shine Stopper
I know that I’ve mentioned this before in my I Heart Summer Tag and also on Kitsch Vixen’s Facebook page. This is my holy grail for the summer. I apply just a little bit over my makeup in the areas that normally get super oily and seriously, it lasts pretty much all day. The shine stopper is perfect for keeping you matte and, well, stopping shine!
Paula’s Choice – $21.95

Covergirl LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara in Very Black
I’ve noticed that when I use this mascara, it separates my lashes nicely and adds a bit of volume and length. I mean, what else can you ask for in a mascara?

StarLooks Lip Pencil in Tickle Me Pink
Spoiler alert: I totally got this in my June Ipsy Glam Bag, so act surprised when I post about it in the upcoming blog post! I’ve beenloving this lip liner. It’s a rich cool-toned matte pink, has a super creamy formula, and you can build up the color if you want to. I’ve worn this under lipsticks and also with just some sheer gloss over it. Sooo good!

Milani Baked Blush in Berry Amore
This blush is awesome. It’s a really pretty rose berry with gold shimmer. I was honestly not expecting to like any of Milani’s Baked Blushes because any kind of face shimmer scares me for the most part. I knew that I wanted to try some new things though and I am so glad that I did. I’ve been wearing this blush a whole lot during July and it just give this nice shimmery flushed effect.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey
I was super late on the bandwagon with these and I am so mad. These balm stains are comparable to Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tints, but at a drugstore price. Honey was the first color that I tried, thanks toLeighannSays, and it’s become one of my favorite lip products for the summer.

Mary Kay Gel Eyeliner in Tempting Teal
You guys, this is going to blow your mind. This is my first (and currently only) gel liner. Whaaaaat?! I know. I’ve been obsessed with neutral looks with a pop of color and I use this on my bottom waterline. It looks amazing and stays on all day.

This palette seems to be a go-to for many beauty bloggers/vloggers, and for good reason. As I said above, I’ve been loving neutral eye looks with a pop of color and I grabbed this palette the most in July. Virgin, Sin, Sidecar, Half Baked, and Darkhorse are my favorites for everyday wear.

Last and certainly not least is my wallet, that I purchased fromVillage/Vanguard which is inside of one of my local Aeons. This is probably my favorite wallet ever. Cat print in pink with a fish bone zipper?! Yes, please! Plus the inside is huge. There are so many different sections.

After scouring the internet, I found this online here for ¥2,940. (Keep in mind that I’ve never used this website, so I don’t know how good/reputable it is.)
