Review: La Riche Directions Hair Dye

review, la riche directions, directions hair dye, hair dye, blue hair, pink hair, hair dye review, beauty blogger, colored hair, la riche hair dye, half and half hair

I had been wanting to dye my hair again for (probably) over a year and decided to wait until my hair grew out a little more and I had at least started looking for a job in Japan. I was finally able to get it done 28JUN13. I went back and forth with the color choices because I'm awful at making decisions and also really wanted to do half white and half black, but ended up choosing to do half pink and half blue.

After the color choice was made, the dye brand was next. I had been used to using Raw the most in the past and Special Effects occasionally (hooray for working at Hot Topic!), but wanted to see if there was a better brand out there. I was thinking about Manic Panic and a friend suggested to try La Riche Directions. I ended up with (surprise!) La Riche Directions in the colors Carnation Pink and Lagoon Blue. The picture above is pretty true to color.

Now, here is my hair the day after I got it done:

Not too bad, huh? I was mostly happy with the way it turned out.

I noticed when rinsing my hair, a lot of color seemed to wash out. A lot. Much more than I'd been used to. Even when my hairdresser was rinsing the conditioner out after the dye, she said that there was a good amount of color coming out. Either way, after all was said and done, my hair looked pretty good.

During the first several days of July, my hair had faded quite a bit, and just as an FYI, I went at least a couple of days between each wash. The pink started fading into a rusty orange color and the blue became more of an odd greenish color. I think I was more bothered by the way it was fading because, to me, rusty orange and odd greenish doesn't look too great together. If I didn't do my hair two-toned I still probably would have been pretty upset with how quickly my hair changed color, but I would have felt much better since it wouldn't be paired with a color that has no business being paired with it. Haha.

This is my hair now... not even two months later:

All in all, I probably won't be using La Riche Directions again unless I specifically want this result, though I don't see that happening any time soon. I just got my hair re-dyed yesterday with Joico colors, so I'll see how that brand works for me.

Just like in all of my reviews, all opinions are my own and my experiences may be different than others. Not everyone's hair will react the same way as mine did and what works for me may not work for you. Just a little disclaimer!

Have you had any experiences with La Riche Directions hair dye?

Wishlist: Lush (07JUL13-14JUL13)

Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub
Rub Rub Rub is a bit of a variation on the normal shower gel. For one, it’s so thick we put it into a tub for handy scooping in the shower. Secondly, it’s a bright blue, supremely softening, exfoliating sea salt shower scrub to revive your skin. Sea salt is extra cleansing, mineral-rich and softening for the hair and body; you can even use it as a shampoo. Our rubby scrub is startlingly refreshing, with a dash of lemon juice and the tropical scent of mimosa blossoms for a light, blossom-scented wash and smoother skin.

Ocean Salt Cleanser
Washing with Ocean Salt is like taking your face on a trip to the seaside for an invigorating splash in the water. The minerals in sea salt soften as it scrubs away dirt, dead skin and blockages for a bright, fresh face. We mix in fresh avocado and coconut to hydrate thirsty skin, leaving it balanced and soft. The antibacterial effects of lime and vodka are ideal for blocked pores, blackheads or blemishes and leave skin visibly brightened. It's no wonder Ocean Salt is so enormously popular!

It's Raining Men Shower Gel
Check out the weather report, it looks like rain today! Get absolutely soaking wet and lather up armed with one of the finest shower gels you can buy. Our honey hand and body soap became such a huge customer favorite that we just had to create a soothing honey shower gel with the same scent. It smells like toffee-fudge, with refreshing sweet orange and bergamot oils to give it a little extra sweetness. In case of stormy weather ahead we made It's Raining Men with lotus flowers to soothe your ravaged bodies and oodles of moisturizing, cleansing honey.

Happy Hippy Shower Gel
Our grapefruit shower gel is one of our happiest shower gels: a magic potion to make the even the office seem inviting on Monday mornings. A perfect way to start the day, Happy Hippy remains one of our best-sellers because it smells absolutely delicious: bursting with fresh, juicy organic pink grapefruits to cleanse away grime, refresh your skin and make you feel brighter all over. Plus, it’s full of zippy grapefruit and bergamot oils to work on tired minds.

No Drought Dry Shampoo
Our dry shampoo absorbs excess oils and volumizes locks, making the hair look and smell fresh without having to wash. When you don't have time or want to give you hair a break from too much washing, massage a little into your scalp and through your hair, then shake or brush out. It blends in completely, even on dark hair, to give texture and a soft, matte finish. Lemon, grapefruit and lime oils will give your hair a fruity fragrance, so you'll smell fresh too!

Fair Trade Honey Shampoo
Over half of this shampoo consists of Fair Trade honey, which is beautifully moisturizing and gives hair shine and luster. All that honey has allowed us to make this one preservative-free, too! While 50% is honey, 20% is linseed mucilage, which has a lovely texture and is moisturizing and conditioning. Fair Trade Honey is suitable for almost everyone, but with all these moisturizing ingredients, it is specifically lovely on hair in need of moisture.

Herbalism Cleanser
Herbalism is best suited to those who have tried everything under the sun to clear up their oily and blemish prone skin. Here's our fresh facial cleanser to convert you into a believer of the power of herbs! The antibacterial blend of rosemary, nettle and chamomile help clear up problematic skin. Ground rice bran acts as an effective exfoliant, while kaolin clay deep cleanses pores. Use this cleanser in combination with Grease Lightning for clear, balanced skin.

Grease Lightning Cleanser
We’re often too upset over blemishes to stop and consider what they are; a clogged pore that has become inflamed because of built-up bacteria. Let’s take a deep breath together. There you go. Now apply Grease Lightning, our super effective, spot-zapping face gel. The antibacterial combination of thyme, tea tree and rosemary infusion dries invisibly as it goes to work shrinking your mini volcanoes. Our herbal infusion conditions the skin, while grape juice cleanses and keeps spots free of dirt. See? Not so scary after all.

Ro's Argan Body Conditioner
LUSH product inventor Rowena made this decadent, rose-scented shower ‘lotion'. She noticed how much she liked the sultry soft feeling hair conditioner gives her hair, so she thought how nice it would be if she could have the same feeling for the body too. With scoops of cocoa butter, cupuacu butter, almond oil and Argan oils, and the fragrant scent of fresh rose petals, this is the most luxurious body softener that ever was (if we don't say so ourselves!). After washing up, slather yourself all over with this new invention. Rinse, pat dry and revel in supremely soft, rose-scented skin.

I've been on a skin care kick lately, and read this post by Meagan Kerr and now I'm craving some Lush. I've used a few of their lotions and massage bars and I fell in love! The quality of the products are fantastic and knowing that they are handmade is an extra plus. Lush has been fighting animal testing as well, and I will always support a company who does that. They also offer vegan alternatives for all the vegans out there.

Have you tried any of these products?
Do you have a Lush favorite?
