→ Indie Crowdfunding: Tiny Hobo Apparel & Accessories

This is not a sponsored post! (Either way, all opinions are my own.)

The amazing and talented Val from The Tiny Hobo has launched a Kickstarter campaign! As you (should) know, I'm a huge fan of Val's. I love her designs not only because they are adorable, but they're also body-positive! In the past I've featured her work in a wishlist, a Kitsch's Caboodles, and my Small Business Saturday post, so if you've missed those, go check them out!

Anyways, I'd like to share The Tiny Hobo's Kickstarter with you all!

Hi there! My name is Valerie, and many of you may know me as The Tiny Hobo. I'm an illustrator, jewelry maker, Etsy seller, day dreamer, and an advocate for happiness. I started my business in 2010, and it's been a life changing journey every step of the way.

As many of you may know, I've worked with tshirt companies in the past, making cute, girly, body positive designs for plus size clothing, and some of you may even own some of these shirts (thanks!)! I am so incredibly grateful for the companies I've had the opportunity to work with, as they've given me a platform to stand on and introduced me to a whole new field to explore.

I made a personal decision to part ways with the companies I was working with, and since then I've received an incredible amount of emails asking where my designs have gone. I was really touched and inspired by the amount of positive feedback I received, and because of this, I've decided to start my own line of apparel, created completely in-house by yours truly!

Why do I want to do ALL OF THIS WORK by myself when other people could do it for me?! Am I crazy? Maybe! But I am also incredibly passionate about overseeing every single step of the process when creating my art, so creating apparel independently is the best way for me to do that. Since I am essentially sharing a piece of my soul with the world and having it printed on shirts for you to wear all over the world, I want to make sure that every single product with my name on it is something that I am 100% satisfied with and can proudly stand behind.

I am envisioning this project growing huge with your help. I plan on launching the apparel line starting with tshirts, featuring old designs you've grown to love, as well as new designs you've yet to see. As this project grows, I want to branch into other clothing items and accessories: long sleeve shirts, tank tops, sweatshirts, bags and pocket books, wallets, hair bows, hats--as I see it, the sky is the limit!

One of the most important aspects of this project is making sure that I am size inclusive. Being that I am a passionate advocate for the self-love and body positive movements, I want to make sure that I can offer the most extensive spectrum of sizes possible while keeping the apparel comfortable, stylish--and most importantly, affordable. And, being that I am a chunky chick myself and hover between a 2X-3X, I sure as hell want to make clothing that I can wear and love!

I hope to start off this project with offering women's sizes from XSmall up to at least 4XLarge, but even as you're reading this I will be on the hunt for distributors who can offer me larger sizes at affordable prices. I will NEVER charge extra for extended sizes, because I believe that everybody has the right to wear cute, stylish clothing at a price that won't destroy their wallets. I intend on making this line as inclusive as possible, so I'm not labeling it as a plus-size brand or a straight-size brand. It's a brand for anyone who wants to wear some freakin' cute stuff on their bodies!

I also want to make sure the garments and printing techniques I use are of the utmost quality, so if you donate to this project or buy an item from me in the future, I want you to rest assured that it will be downright awesome. I will only be purchasing professional-grade materials and ordering from companies that are trusted, honest, and ethical.

In short: I just want to make cute things that everyone can wear, and I would love your help to make this dream a reality!

There are a large handful of different tiers and some awesome incentives! I personally got this one: A colorful, original sketch illustrated by yours truly, and a thank you card also illustrated by me! A Tiny Hobo sampler pack, which will include an assortment of buttons, art prints, and jewelry made by me! I cannot wait!

I'm really big on supporting local and small businesses, so I'd like to make "Indie Crowdfunding" a regular-ish installation if you guys like it and share with you some interesting Kickstarters, Indiegogos, etc! Whatcha think?

Small Business Saturday

Happy Small Business Saturday, everyone! I think out of this whole ridiculous four day weekend of money hemorrhaging, Small Business Saturday is by far my favorite. As much as I adore hunting for amazing deals, I love supporting small businesses even more! I may be biased since my parents own a book shop (pictured above), but what's better than endorsing small businesses or buying local? Anywhooo, I've compiled a list of a fraction of my favorite etsy shops for you guys to check out!

These photos were taken after doing a bunch of errands in 90+ degree weather and sporadic rainfall, so my hair is super wacky. Don't judge me! :3

My husband is such a trooper, taking photos of me! He's not a pro, but he gets it done and I totally appreciate it. I totally wish he would have told me that my vest had flipped on one side though in the only body shot he took, womp womp.

Now, I want to tell you about this awesome dress, guys! My first purchase from Eshakti was hit and miss, and this dress was the hit. I love how it fits me and that there are pockets... Pockets. Any dress that has pockets gets an immediate one-up on other dresses, in my opinion. Also, on the underside of the dress straps, there's a strip of fabric sewn on with a button, (I feel like that's not an accurate way to describe it at all) so you can button your bra strap to it! Oh man, I was so excited when I realized it had that feature especially since the dress straps were a bit too large, but once I hooked my bra strap up it fixed that problem. No strap-slippage for me!

I was FINALLY able to order a new camera after over a month of trying. First there was that whole QVC debacle, then I saw that Amazon couldn't ship it out here, then when I tried to order it directly from the NEX website so I could just get it shipped to my local NEX, my local NEX wasn't one of the options. Ugh. My husband and I checked at the NEX before all of this and they don't have the T5i in stock. There was the option to get one transferred from Yokosuka if that NEX had one in stock, so we filled out a form the other day and were later called to be told that they didn't carry it either. So then it took four tries on my local NEX's website, but the order finally went through! I don't think I'm going to believe it until the camera actually arrives, but once it does I will be so excited. I can finally retire my (technically, it's my husband's since he's had it for many years, but you know that whole "what's mine is yours" mindset...) super old, out of date Sony Cybershot. I might even be able to post quality photographs! I know, I know, it's nuts!
...And I can start doing videos! Hooray! Watch out, YouTube, here I come!

Anyway, that was my long rambly post. Do you guys like it when there's more than just "here's what I'm wearing and where to get it" or do you prefer my old straight and to the point OOTD posts?

RTT Vol. 5: Finds

random thought thursday, the tiny hobo, the little mermaid, iron fist, finds, iphone app, application, asos curve, too faced, pretty rebel palette, urban decay

Two weeks ago, someone contacted me and asked me to try out a new fashion app called Finds. After checking out the app, I definitely wanted to give it a shot. It's kind of like Instagram, but for purchases so it's right up my alley!

I'm really liking it so far. For many of the "finds" there's also a buy option, so it's easy to purchase something that you're interested in directly from the app. It's also pretty awesome that there is a nice range of people you can follow, so you'll always find something/someone that interests you.

The one thing that I can think of to change would just be to add more photo filters. It doesn't seem like too many people are using them and I think it's because there aren't really that many to choose from.

If you'd like to check it out, you can click here or search for "Finds" in the app store. Oh! It's totally free, by the way. If you do check it out, let me know so we can follow each other! You can find me by searching for Kitsch Vixen.

Kitsch’s Caboodle Vol. 1

Now introducing to you a new installment: Kitsch's Caboodle! This is where I roundup all of the things on the internet that I think are interesting, cute, inspiring, helpful, etc. I've been wanting to do one of these for a while and I'm so glad I picked this week to start because there are some awesome things I'd like to share with you all.

Let's start off with this video:
Yeah. A kitten eating a watermelon. I feel like this shouldn't need any explanation.

The Militant Baker wrote about How To Kick Ass On A Daily Basis which I think is one of the most important things for a person to do. This lady is always so inspiring and really knows how to get me motivated and feel like a babe.

Big, Beautiful, and Bold posted an extraordinary post about F-A-T: Trampling the Taboo. I'm trying to remember how I found her blog; I think she commented on a blog that I read regularly and I followed through to her page? All I know is that she is an eloquent writer and expressed how I feel about the word "fat" beautifully!

Uh, can we talk about how much I love The Tiny Hobo? Yes? Good. First off, I actually know this babely lady in real life. What?! You're super jealous because you love her artwork? I know, you should be... I would be if I were you. Secondly, CUPCAKE QUEEN? I think I need this so I can do another version of my I Am The Cupcake Queen OOTD. Also, check out her shop and tell me you don't think that her work isn't magical, I freakin' dare you!

I'm going to end this with video dating clips from the 80s.
Yep. You're welcome.
